Barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an electronic device for reading printed barcodes.  A CCD is a basic scanner that will only scan on a single line and is used for larger barcodes; A Laser Scanner reads even the smallest barcodes from any angle, they also work on a movement sensor so if they are not being moved they will switch off and reactivate.  Laser Scanners tend to wired into a POS Terminal or PC but can also be used for warehousing; Bluetooth is a wireless Laser Scanner allowing you typically 15m from the base unit;  Omni-directional scanners usually found in supermarkets are better at reading poorly printed or even torn barcodes they are desk mounted and allow you to scan from any direction; Wireless Scanners or Hand Held Terminals are used for stock control and in the warehouse for goods received giving you a keypad to input stock numbers and descriptions.
